Falcone Festival August 2000
Steve Mead chose pieces by Juste, Ravel and Wilby, but the two pieces which seemed to truly sparkle were Max Bruch's Kol Nidrei, which was dedicated lovingly to a former friend and teacher, and Hugo Alven's "Valflickens Dans" (Herbsmaidens Dance). The former featured lovely phrasing and sound and the latter featured an amazing display of technique played with great clarity and flare. The audience jumped immediately to their feet after the Alven work, applauding the effort. The final piece of the afternoon featured Mead and Sinder performing the final three movements of David Gillingham's "Diversive Elements", an absolutely delightful feature piece which one could not imagined being performed and better than it was this day. Once again, the large audience in Blue Lake's new Blodgett Recital Hall responded with a standing ovation.
