Gong Hongliang is the first Chinese euphonium student ever to study at the RNCM and what a talented player he is. He practices 5 or 6 hours every day and has already made a big impression with his fellow students and staff. He is embarking on a four year UnderGraduate course with Steve at the RNCM and is destined for a highly success career with the euphonium.
He has a tremendous work ethic, a great sense of humour and is an excellent communicator. His technique and range on the euphonium is quite outstanding as his thirst for information on repertoire. This week he bought the instrument of his dreams, a new Besson Prestige Euphonium (2052 in silver) and played it immediately in his lesson, performing the difficult Golland 'Euphonium Concerto no.2' with great skill and control.
In these photos we see Gong receiving his new Besson euphonium. We will hear a lot more of this player in the years to come and he will no doubt prove a wonderful ambassador for the euphonium in his home country too.
