Beginning soon will be the much anticipated UK Tour by the Youth Brass Band of Upper Austria, conducted by Karl Geroldinger.
I will be soloing with them at each concert on the tour, which begins on 25 August outside the Guards Chapel in Central London, Wellington barracks, (Birdcage Walk entrance). The poster below shows all the venues that the band will be playing in the days following, and they are thrilled to be teaming up with the fantastic YouthBrass 2000 in Corby on the 26th, before travelling north to Scotland and on the 28th, a concert with the outstanding Whitburn Youth Band in Livingston.
They then journey down the west coast to Manchester on the 29th, for a very special day at the RNCM. From 3.30 to 5:30 PM they will be doing workshops along with members of the Fairey Band, and hopefully will be joined by many young players from the Manchester area and even further afield. There will be a massed band rehearsal, in preparation then for the evening concert which begins at 7:30 PM where both bands will perform separately, and we hear that the Fairey Band will be performing the upcoming British Open test piece 'Vita Aeterna Variations' by Alexander Comitas. The massed band finale will undoubtedly be a highlight of the tour.
On the 30th, the band travel to south Wales and following a short underground visit at a mining museum close to the Tredegar Town band room, they will go and hear the band rehearsing the British Open test piece before playing a short program for them! After an evening relaxing in Cardiff, they travel on 31 August down to beautiful Christchurch Quay, where they will perform an afternoon concert in the bandstand there, for a very large audience who will also be enjoying an exhibition of vintage cars!
The final day of their tour, September 1, sees the band performing at the Boscombe Salvation Army Hall in Palmerston Road, of course a place that I have great memories and a lot of history. It would be just wonderful to see a full hall enjoying the final concert of this outstanding youth band.
I hope to see many of you during this tour, and please spread the word.
