Whitburn Band conducted by Steve won the Land O' Burns contest on 29th August in Troon on the west coast of Scotland .14 bands competed for the £2500 first prize . Included in the line up were rivals CoOp and Kirkintilloch.
The band, who also accompany Steve on the new Rococo Variations CD, were on superb form and received the congratulations of the adjudicator Davd Horsfield. The bands programme (20 minutes) was: Bank Holiday (Snell), Challenging Brass (Vinter), Stardust (Carmichael Arr.Geldard), trombone soloist Alex Phillip, Entry of the Gods Into Valhalla (Wagner Arr.Snell).
Inidivual awards for cornet, euphonium and basses were also won by the band.
As the results were being given out Steve was rehearsing the band again in a nearby hall in Troon, on the test piece Titan's Progress, in preparation for the British Open BB Championships in Symphony Hall, Birmingham on Sept 12th.
After a short celebration at the results, the band played through the testpiece before celebrations continued in Glasgow and Whitburn. Well done Whitburn, a success long overdue after some superb performances over the last two years.
